A Journey Through Blockchain
My blockchain journey kicked off back in 2014 when I joined a certain media outfit that specializes in all things crypto. Picture this: a world filled with shadowy projects, jaw-dropping bitcoin casinos, and the infamous Mt. Gox crash looming over us like a dark cloud. The media landscape was dotted with folks casting a skeptical eye toward this ‘budding’ industry, while a few brave souls remained in the shadows, championing the promise of a decentralized future.
Setting the Stage for Innovation
Amidst this chaos, I was captivated by the few individuals and teams who, despite the naysayers, were passionately crafting groundbreaking projects. This led to a rather wild idea: why not create a conference to provide these innovators a platform to showcase their efforts and celebrate their ingenuity? It was time to change the narrative.
Launching the BlockShow Experience
Fast forward to 2016, our team embarked on our first conference adventure. We opted to look beyond just Bitcoin; we were eager to explore the underlying potential of blockchain itself. The conference was set in Helsinki, with an audience of about 200 enthusiasts—all of whom were incredibly passionate about the future of this technology. Just two months before, our team consisted of only three dedicated souls working hard to make it happen!
Growing Pains and Gains
Our Munich event—BlockShow 2017—was an eye-opener, with attendance jumping to over 500. Success! And now, we’re gearing up for an exhilarating future, planning three major events expected to attract over 10,000 attendees. Meetups across the globe are fostering a vibrant community where the energy is infectious, and innovation is the star of the show.
Rethinking the Conference
We’ve redefined what it means to attend a ‘conference’. Gone are the drab and dreary sessions. Instead, we’ve crafted a casual atmosphere where networking flourishes, deals are made, and connections are forged effortlessly. There are still stunning speaker sessions and panels—like that unforgettable keynote by blockchain pioneer Charlie Shrem—but they happen amid laughter, camaraderie, and great energy.
