Empowering Creators: How Web3 is Transforming Entertainment Ownership

The Changing Face of Entertainment Ownership

The entertainment industry has long been a battleground for ownership disputes and creative differences. With a handful of studios and networks controlling the majority of rights, film and TV productions often wind up feeling like déjà vu all over again. Thankfully, Web3 technology is shaking things up by shifting the power dynamics back to the creators and fans.

Meet the Changemakers: Jason Neubauer’s Vision

According to Jason Neubauer, founder and CEO of Affect Change, the old Hollywood formula tends to prioritize influencers over authentic storytelling. “In Hollywood, there’s a formula that compromises creators’ true visions,” he says. Neubauer aims to counter this trend by championing genuine stories that inspire positive change.

Learning from the Old Rules

Before the dawn of Web3, getting a show off the ground typically involved signing deals with major networks that came with heavy compromises. Mimicking a network executive, Neubauer quipped, “We want you to sign the biggest influencer. We’re going to give you money.” But the price? Authenticity. Affect Change aims to flip this script, focusing on people who are genuinely impacting the world.

The Community Empowerment Model

With Web3 paving the way for creative independence, shows like Affect Change don’t have to depend on traditional networks. Instead, they thrive through community involvement. Affect Change partnered with SOLIS, a Polygon-based Web3 ecosystem, to create unique experiences for changemakers and their supporters.

Innovating the Interaction

SOLIS fosters a participatory environment where creators and audiences can connect and share assets derived from various entertainment content. This allows creators to generate revenue while retaining their creative vision. It’s like creating a Netflix for the community, but one where everyone gets to pitch in and own part of the content’s journey.

NFTs: Owning a Piece of the Action

Neubauer points out that many NFT drops struggle to maintain excitement after launch. To address this challenge, Affect Change is focusing on community engagement through their Founding Member Collection, launching 222 NFTs themed “Butterfly Affect.” This initiative symbolizes personal transformation as everyone emerges from their cocoons.

Launching with Purpose

Collaborating with Miami-based artist Sergey “Do What You Love” Gordienko, the initial NFT collection not only reflects the idea of social consciousness but also serves as an exciting entry point for fans to engage with the series. Each independently themed episode will feature two changemakers, allowing fans to either partake in the whole series or engage with individual themes, adding layers to the viewing experience.

The Road Ahead: Transparency & Fun

To keep the community engaged, Affect Change will introduce utilities along the way, increasing the fun factor. Also, Neubauer emphasizes that the ultimate goal is to share growth and profits transparently with the community, proving that Web3 is here not just to change the industry but to empower it.

From his perspective, this is not just a vision; it’s a revolution in storytelling where fans and creators can thrive together. Who said you can’t combine business-savvy with inspirational storytelling?!
