Community Movement Takes A U-Turn
The pro-Bitcoin community made headlines last week when they launched a revolt against Bitcoin.com, only to hit the brakes on their legal action plans. MoneyTrigz, one of the movement’s leading voices, shared the news on their Telegram channel on May 3. Apparently, fundraising for a lawsuit proved about as successful as a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest.
Why the Outrage?
Members were fuming, claiming that Bitcoin.com, led by Roger Ver, was intentionally muddying the waters between Bitcoin (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) — essentially playing a game of brand hide-and-seek. Advocates felt that the site’s actions were misleading buyers into getting BCH instead of the original BTC. If that’s not marketing tomfoolery, we don’t know what is!
Fundraising Woes
On April 27, the group kicked off a fundraising campaign, dreaming of a robust legal battle against Bitcoin.com. However, they only managed to scrape together a mere $3,700 in BTC — not quite enough to hire a high-powered attorney or buy a decent piece of pizza. In a heartfelt message, MoneyTrigz expressed gratitude to the 31 donors but acknowledged that it was time to pull the plug on the initiative.
Refunds and Reactions
With heavy hearts and empty wallets, refunds are on the way for the 33 supporters. MoneyTrigz highlighted the bright side, noting significant changes made on Bitcoin.com during their brief campaign. “At least we got Bitcoin.com to make 90% changes on its fraud and dis-information,” he tweeted, probably while composing a heartfelt symphony of thank-yous.
Community Response
Surprisingly enough, the response from the community has been largely positive. It’s not every day that folks celebrate the end of a failure. One user chimed in with a compliment about Roger Ver scaling back on his alleged shady practices. You could say it was a victory of sorts, albeit a bittersweet one. In what has become an ongoing saga since Bitcoin Cash’s birth in August 2017, the battle for branding supremacy between BTC and BCH shows no signs of ending anytime soon.
