BCB Blockchain’s Commitment to Smart City Development
In a significant stride towards enhancing technological infrastructure, Singapore-based BCB Blockchain has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the Philippines’ Department of Science and Technology (DOST). This partnership aims to catalyze the growth of smart cities across the Philippines, showcasing a commitment of $300,000 to support incubators and startup accelerators in the nation.
Fostering Local Innovation
The initiative focuses on nurturing local startups dedicated to developing smart city projects and applications. BCB Blockchain is not venturing into this alone; they have also teamed up with various Filipino educational institutions. Their collaboration includes providing invaluable resources, technical knowledge, and hands-on workshops to fuel research and development endeavors.
Workshops and Technical Support
According to BCB Blockchain’s CEO, Douglas Gan, this partnership is a game-changer. The company plans not only to supply funding but also to offer materials, events, and comprehensive technical support. Gan expressed optimism, stating:
“By providing DOST, universities, and TBIs the resources and technical knowledge that BCB Blockchain has, we expect them to deepen their competencies in the area of designing and developing applications and projects for smart cities.”
The Rise of Emerging Technologies
The momentum doesn’t stop there. Earlier this summer, the Philippines’ Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) entered into an MoA with Monsoon Blockchain Storage, a U.S.-based firm. This partnership will see Monsoon act as a blockchain consultant to DICT, offering critical analysis on the socio-economic impacts of blockchain technologies in the Philippines.
Legislative Perspectives on FinTech
Adding another layer of complexity, Philippine Senator Grace Poe has urged lawmakers to exercise caution regarding financial technology regulations. Praising the importance of change but fearing hasty decisions, she noted:
“To most of our countrymen, this is alien to them, but in fact some of them have been availing of it through online lending.”
Poe emphasized the necessity for adequate information and education to protect citizens from becoming victims of unregulated financial practices.
Conclusion: A Technological Transformation Awaits
As the Philippines embraces blockchain technology and smart city development, this collaboration between BCB Blockchain and local entities marks the dawn of a transformative journey. With such initiatives paving the way, the future looks bright on the horizon of urban innovation.
