Boosting DAO Participation: How Notifi Network is Making Voting Impossible to Ignore

Estimated read time 3 min read

The Dreaded Governance Vote and Low Participation Rates

Governance votes in decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) often end up being like that gym membership you forgot you had: a whole lot of investment with minimal engagement. Participation rates in these vital votes are often so low that they’d make a participation trophy look like a gold medal. Well, get ready for some accountability because the Notifi Network is here to change the game!

Notifi Network: Your Reminder Buddy

The Notifi Network is betting on a familiar approach to ensure you never forget to vote again. Think of it as your pushy friend from college reminding you that the midterm paper is due tomorrow. With Notifi, Solana DAOs are getting a sophisticated notification service that combines modern messaging platforms like Telegram and Discord with good old-fashioned phone calls, texts, and emails.

How It Works

  • Choose Your Notification Method: Users can select how they want to be notified of governance proposals.
  • Escalate Reminders: If you ignore the initial alert (the dreaded silent treatment), you might find your phone ringing with a call!
  • Crucial for Engagement: This service aims to coax users back into the fold and encourage more active participation.

A Challenge to the Web3 Paradigm

Paul Kim, the founder of Notifi, is determined to shake things up. “For some reason, we just skipped around email from Web2 when we leaped into Web3,” he quips. Why not bring back the email notifications that everyone pretends to hate? Kim is hopeful that reintroducing traditional communication methods will improve engagement in the DAO space.

Flashing the Alarm: Current Situation

What’s the state of affairs? According to DAO tracker DeepDAO, participation is shockingly dismal. Less than 1% of governance token holders on Solana’s top DAOs are active. That’s right, a club with 500 DAOs and a treasury value of $1.5 billion is limping along like a marathoner who forgot to hydrate. Who knew ‘buying the token’ didn’t automatically mean ‘active involvement’?

The Future of Notifi

As Kim outlined in his blog, the long-term vision for Notifi could expand far beyond just governance votes. Possible features include notifications for trades, airdrops, and even liquidation alerts. But first, they’re using the Realms platform as a testing ground to prove that staying on top of your DAO responsibilities doesn’t have to be an uphill battle.

“We’re eager to see what the data shows us and what trends actually exist about messaging platform utilization,” Kim adds, and who can blame him? If Notifi pulls this off, we might just start seeing some real voting action in the DAO space, making low numbers a thing of the past.
