Civil’s Bold Blockchain Initiative: A Fresh Start for Journalism in February

Reimagining Journalism with Blockchain

A new dawn for journalism is just around the corner as Civil prepares for its launch. This blockchain-based platform promises to transform the media ecosystem, with the aim of fostering financial sustainability and trust in journalism.

The Risky Business of Token Sales

Despite the hiccup earlier this year when Civil’s CVL token sale stumbled spectacularly—crawling to a mere $1,435,491 from a goal of $8 million—the company remains undeterred. They’re hopping back onto the horse and planning another token sale. This time, however, there won’t be a finish line; CVL tokens will be available indefinitely until the full 34 million are snapped up by consumers. Talk about a never-ending story!

New Tools for Newsrooms

Alongside the sale, Civil is rolling out two key tools to attract newsrooms: the Civil Registry and Civil Publisher. These tools are designed to empower newsrooms to maintain integrity while establishing a blockchain-backed community. The Civil Registry lets any newsroom apply to be a part of this community, while Civil Publisher will help them log credible information about their articles onto the blockchain. Think of it as a trust-building exercise for news.

An Expanding Network

Civil is quickly gathering momentum, with 18 newsrooms signing up already and hopes to balloon that number to 1,000 by 2020. With its eyes set on inclusion, the platform isn’t just looking to house major players but also small and midsize newsrooms worldwide. Who knew blockchain could be the ultimate team player?

Alliances in the Media Landscape

Their journey took a significant turn in August when Civil hitched its wagon to the Associated Press (AP) through a content licensing partnership. With access to a treasure trove of national and international news, Civil aims to deliver high-quality content to its user base, helping news agencies get their feet wet in the blockchain pool.

Innovation Beyond Civil: A Glimpse at AT&T

Innovation isn’t just a one-company show. Recently, telecom giant AT&T has ventured into patent territory with a blockchain-based social media history “map.” This application hints at a future where your online interactions could be cataloged and managed with blockchain technology. Perhaps we’ll see a social media world where everyone’s history is meticulously, and safely, documented?
