Coinbase’s Layer-2 Network Base Breaks Daily Transaction Record

Base Hits New Heights

In a surprising turn of events, Coinbase’s layer-2 network, Base, shattered its previous daily transaction record. On September 14, Base processed a staggering 1.88 million transactions, eclipsing its earlier benchmark of 1.41 million set just weeks after its launch on August 9. Move over, Optimism and Arbitrum, Base is stealing the spotlight!

Transaction Turbulence

Despite the triumphant achievement, it seems Base has some catching up to do. For context, on the same day, Polygon and BNB Smart Chain (BSC) were flexing their muscles with 2.1 million and 3.1 million transactions, respectively. It’s like Base is that kid who brings a snack to school but forgets to also bring the fruit roll-ups everyone else has.

Daily Active Users: A Mixed Bag

Interestingly, while the transaction numbers soared, the count of daily active users didn’t quite match the excitement. On September 14, Base logged about 86,000 active users, down significantly from the 136,000 recorded on August 21. It appears that while Base is running the hamster wheel of transactions, not as many hamsters are willing to hop on!

The Features That Keep Users Engaged

Since its launch, Base has been warmly welcomed into the crypto community. Users have jumped into its features, including bridging tokens, minting NFTs, and providing liquidity. On September 6 alone, over 700,000 NFTs were minted by more than 268,000 unique wallets. Clearly, they are doing something right—engagement is still high even if the active user numbers tell a different story.

Conclusion: The Journey Ahead

Though Base has made remarkable strides in a short amount of time, the road ahead is filled with competition. Surpassing rivals like Optimism and Arbitrum is a commendable feat, but to truly establish itself, Base will need to consider not just transactions, but also how to keep its user base engaged and growing. After all, in the world of crypto, it’s not just about speed—community matters too!
