Bitcoin Bounces Back
Bitcoin (BTC) is riding high today, trading at approximately $7,374, marking a rise of over 1 percent. After reclaiming the $7,000 threshold on August 31, BTC is now inching closer to $7,400. This digital giant has squashed its weekly low by a whopping $550, showcasing a stellar nearly 7 percent increase over the past seven days and a nearly flat line for the month.
The Ethereum Enigma
Meanwhile, Ethereum (ETH) is giving us mixed signals, hovering around $288. It has hardly budged, demonstrating a fractional gain of 0.1 percent over the week. Despite peaking around $298, it appears Ethereum has decided to play it safe, remaining range-bound with substantial monthly losses of around 31 percent.
The Winners & Losers of the Top Ten
As for the rest of the top ten cryptocurrencies, most are seeing slight increases. But let’s take a moment to spotlight Litecoin (LTC), which has surged nearly 5.7 percent today, trading around $69. After a solid push at the beginning of September, it appears LTC is reminiscent of a rubber band snapping back to action. Another notable player is Monero (XMR), which is up about 5 percent, currently priced at around $139.
Stellar Struggles Despite IBM Buzz
In contrast, Stellar (XLM) has barely reacted to IBM’s launch of its Blockchain World Wire (BWW). Though it’s up 2.8 percent today, trading around $0.23, it’s a far cry from the enthusiasm typically surrounding big corporate news. I guess for Stellar, it’s hard to shine when you’re caught in the shadows of greater altcoin movements.
Market Momentum and Growing Adoption
The overall crypto market cap has swelled to about $240 billion, reflecting a hearty weekly growth of nearly $12 billion. The optimism doesn’t just stop at prices. In a most bullish twist, South Korea’s KISA has doubled down on public blockchain pilot budget plans, while Germany’s Deutsche Boerse has launched a dedicated blockchain unit. On top of that, China’s PBoC has kicked off testing for a major blockchain trade finance platform ahead of schedule.
