Cryptocurrency Lobbying: Web3’s Push for Positive Policy and Economic Growth

The Cryptocurrency Lobbying Boom

In recent years, the world of cryptocurrency has been buzzing more than a coffee shop full of millennials. A report by Public Citizen reveals the rise of lobbying, where the number of lobbyists focused on cryptocurrency surged from 115 in 2018 to 320 in just three years! That’s like going from a small town’s mayoral committee to a full-fledged Hollywood production.

Enter Lobby3: The DAO with a Purpose

In February, a new player entered the lobbying game: Lobby3, created by the ever-charismatic Andrew Yang. This isn’t your typical lobbying firm, it’s a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO), inviting members with tokens priced between 0.07 Ether and 40 ETH. That’s like an all-you-can-eat buffet for policy advocacy.

Yang’s Vision: Regulation with a Twist

Yang has a bold vision: steer the crypto industry away from the heavy-handed grasp of the SEC. He believes that a new agency focused on cryptocurrency regulation is the way to go instead of the SEC, which has been keeping folks up at night with compliance nightmares. “We need rules that create value without strangling the life out of innovation,” he said, probably while sipping a flavored sparkling water.

Education Comes First: Blockchain 101

To put his vision into action, Yang plans to cohost a “Blockchain 101” session with the Crypto Caucus, aiming to get Congress members onboard. If he succeeds, it might just stamp out the blank stares that Congress members quite often display when the term blockchain is uttered.

The Promise of Universal Basic Income (UBI)

A self-proclaimed UBI enthusiast, Yang is convinced that the cryptocurrency community is primed for such initiatives. He touts that 85% of crypto lovers are on board with some version of UBI. After experiencing the joy of financial technology, they’re ready to spread that wealth, or at least the concept of it. GoodDollar is one such project he cites as a shining example of this mission.

Future Pilots and Financial Inclusion

Looking ahead, Lobby3 plans to set up pilot programs to showcase the social benefits of Web3 technologies – a term that encompasses everything blockchain-related, including the glittery NFTs. Yang envisions creating financial inclusion channels for underprivileged communities, although he keeps specific examples close to his chest for now, probably to maintain an air of mystery.
