Elon Musk’s Plea for Help
On a rainy Monday, September 17, Elon Musk, the tech mogul behind SpaceX and Tesla, made a public tweet appealing to Dogecoin’s creator, Jackson Palmer, to assist in vanquishing the trickster scammers plaguing Twitter. “@ummjackson, if you can help get rid of the annoying scam spammers, that would be much appreciated,” Musk tweeted, letting us know that even billionaires need a hand sometimes.
A Rapid Response
What happened next? Palmer was quicker than a caffeinated squirrel. He urged Musk to slide into his DMs like a seasoned pro: “If you DM me (your DMs aren’t open), I’ll send you the script – it’s short, simple and you just run it with cron somewhere.” And just like that, the duo struck up a virtual friendship, devoted to taking down pesky bots.
Progress in Real-Time
It didn’t take long for an update to drop from Palmer, reminiscent of a tech-savvy superhero with a mission: “Update: Elon has the script… we had a good chat on how @jack and the Twitter team should definitely automate and fix this problem on their end though.” One can only imagine how that tech chat went down. Did they have coffee? Did Musk get distracted by a spaceship? The world may never know.
The Ongoing Scammer Saga
In a not-so-surprising twist, Musk isn’t the only celebrity being targeted by these scrappy scam bots. From Litecoin’s founder Charlie Lee to Telegram’s CEO Pavel Durov, the impersonations are rampant. Back in July, Musk jokingly tweeted, “I want to know who is running the Etherium scambots! Mad skillz.” Who knew that billionaire tech giants could be the butt of such humorous antics?
Technology Meets Cryptocurrency
In the midst of current events, Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey hinted at the use of blockchain technology to combat misinformation on the platform. Sounds like a futuristic remedy to what many might consider an old-school problem. But as for Dogecoin, despite Palmer’s collab with Musk, its price remained as stable as a tortoise at a yoga retreat, even as it experienced a significant upswing earlier in September.
