Interchain Foundation’s Ambitious $40 Million Commitment to Cosmos Ecosystem Development in 2023

A Bold Investment in Blockchain Infrastructure

In a recent announcement on February 20, the Interchain Foundation (ICF) revealed a hefty commitment of approximately $40 million for 2023. This funding aims to bolster the development of the core infrastructure and applications that make up the Cosmos ecosystem. The ICF’s mission? To enhance interblockchain communications (IBC) and elevate the capabilities of about 50 blockchains that leverage the Interchain Stack.

Core Technologies Driving the Cosmos

The Cosmos ecosystem is a marvel of blockchain technology, utilizing vital frameworks like Tendermint Core (now known as CometBFT), the Cosmos SDK, and the IBC protocol. These tools serve as the skeleton upon which diverse blockchains can build their unique features while ensuring seamless interaction amongst each other.

Engaging Team Efforts

According to the ICF, the strategy for this year includes engaging multiple teams for focused projects that address specific aspects of development. Expect smaller, carefully defined tasks to emerge, which will complement existing teams’ efforts throughout the year. Think of it as a collective brainstorming session where everyone gets a slice of the pie, albeit a pie made of code!

Foundations for Smart Contracts

The ICF isn’t just tossing money around willy-nilly; they are strategically supporting technologies that have become critical in the blockchain realm. CosmWasm and Ethermint are two such technologies that the foundation touts as cornerstones for smart contracts and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible blockchains. These tools not only drive adoption but also create versatile environments for developers to innovate and thrive.

Projects to Look Out For

  • Interchain Developer Academy: A hub for nurturing talent and expanding blockchain knowledge.
  • Cosmos Developer Portal: A one-stop treasure trove of resources for developers.
  • Interchain Builders Program: For those teams looking to create synergies with other blockchain technologies like Polkadot and Hyper Ledger.

Reopening the Small Grants Program

Just when you thought it couldn’t get better, the ICF also plans to relaunch its Small Grants Program after a pause due to an overwhelming number of applications last year. This program serves as a lifeline for budding projects in need of financial support, with mentorship opportunities available through the Builders Program.

Community Engagement and Support

In addition to financial support, the ICF encourages its developer community to engage through measures like the ATOM delegation program, providing avenues for contributions and rewards. It’s a community-driven effort, and the ICF wants to ensure no one feels left out of the exhilarating blockchain party!
