Groundbreaking Partnership Announced
The Iota Foundation is setting the stage for some serious blockchain action by partnering with Austria’s latest academic marvel, the Christian Doppler Laboratory (CDL) for Blockchain Technologies for the Internet of Things (IoT). Officially opened on November 26 by the Austrian Federal Minister for Digital and Economic Affairs, Margarethe Schramböck, this lab is the first of its kind and aims to push the boundaries of Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) in real-world applications.
Merging Academia with Industry
So, what does this partnership mean? The lab focuses on fostering collaboration between public research institutions and industries. This marriage of academia and business is set to dive deep into the research and development of DLT, aiming to revolutionize how businesses implement this tech. Looks like the future is bright—and possibly a bit more decentralized!
Iota and Pantos: A Dynamic Duo
Iota’s not going solo in this venture; it’s joined at the hip with Pantos, a notable player in the blockchain scene as the first multi-blockchain token system. Pantos, a brainchild of BitPanda, is hitting the ground running alongside Iota to synergize efforts and tackle the critical aspects of scalability and interoperability.
Research That Matters
Professor Stefan Schulte, the captain of this new research ship, is keen on integrating various DLTs and enhancing interoperability among different systems. As he puts it, “With the rising number of potential application areas for DLT-based payments and data exchange in the Internet of Things, new DLTs have to be integrated, and interoperability between different DLTs becomes necessary.” Sounds like an adventure worth joining!
Iota’s Road to Decentralization
Originally launched as Jinn in 2014, Iota aims to be the go-to platform for DLT and IoT devices, an industry that’s booming like popcorn in a hot microwave. After a major update in August, dubbed “Chrysalis,” Iota can now handle a whopping 1,000 transactions per second! Although it’s faced some criticism for being too centralized before, the Iota Foundation is determined to achieve full decentralization by Q1 2021. Talk about a thrilling rollercoaster ride in the blockchain space!
