Moving the Metaverse from VR to the World
Meta’s Horizon Worlds has decided it’s time to step out of the exclusive club of VR headsets and make its way onto smartphones and computers. Yes, the metaverse that once had us saying ‘but where are the legs?’ is now accessible to more folks than ever!
The Launch of Super Rumble
First up in this digital evolution is Super Rumble, a free-for-all shooter that dropped in late July. It’s like a family reunion where you’d rather shoot each other than actually talk. This game allows between two to six players to engage in frantic five-minute matches. Think of it as dodgeball, but with less faceplants and a lot more digital mayhem!
Gradual Rollout for Everyone
Initially, only a select group of people get to access the fun via the web or the Meta Quest app on Android, with an iOS version on the way. One can only hope that the beta testers aren’t just Meta employees who are tired of staring at their screens!
Aiming for Inclusivity
Meta’s mantra seems to be all about accessibility. “The metaverse should be available to everyone,” they claim. They’re clearly not satisfied with the underwhelming 200,000 monthly users reported last October, and who can blame them? Let’s just hope that accessibility doesn’t mean a slew of disoriented avatars crashing into each other!
The Leg Update: A Step Forward
In a long-overdue act of virtual liberality, Meta avatars are finally getting virtual legs. Who knew that legs would be the key to elevating your metaverse game? This much-ballyhooed feature was introduced in a previous Quest Home space update and has now crept its way onto Horizon Worlds. Looks like Zuckerberg finally found the ‘legs’ in ‘let’s get this metaverse moving.’
