What’s Cooking in the Polkadot Kitchen?
On December 3rd, Polkadot decided it was time to get serious in the world of decentralized finance (DeFi). No longer content just being the cool kid on the blockchain block, Polkadot announced its exciting DeFi alliance. The laughter from Ethereum may still be echoing in the hallways, but Polkadot is planning to throw a proverbial party of its own, where all the developers can pitch in their ideas.
Founding Members: A DeFi Dream Team
Any good party needs a great guest list, and this alliance has some notable names. Among the founding members is Chainlink, famed for its oracle network, with Dan Kochis leading the charge. His enthusiasm? Infectious. He remarks,
“Chainlink is excited to help steer the direction of Polkadot’s growing ecosystem of decentralized financial applications.”
He’s not wrong! With support from the likes of Plasm Network, Tidal Finance, and Polkaswap, expect innovative discussions and serious work to happen.
Calling All Developers: Join the Revolution!
For all the aspiring innovators and DeFi dreamers out there, here’s your chance! The alliance is actively seeking applications from developers who are eager to experiment and build upon the Polkadot network or its innovative Substrate technology. This isn’t a ‘don’t call us, we’ll call you’ scenario; they want you to pick up your virtual hammer and start crafting!
Thousand Validators Program: An Incentive for Growth
If you thought the fun stopped with the alliance, think again! Polkadot is rolling out a “thousand validators” initiative, set to kick off this month. This program aims to motivate individuals to run their own Polkadot nodes with support and incentives – essentially stating, “Hey buddy, come help us scale our decentralization!”
Current Validator Status: A Call for Action
As of now, Polkadot’s validator scene shows that they might be a bit over-reliant on third-party services—249 validators when two-thirds of their supply is staked. What gives? They certainly have their work cut out as they aim for that thousand validators mark. With their eye on the ball, they can definitely reach this target.
