The application made its first splash at Ripple’s annual customer event, Swell, where it was demoed in December. According to Arthit Sriumporn, SCB’s senior vice president of commercial banking, this digital wizardry could redefine the money transfer game.

The Traditional Struggles

Sriumporn pointed out the struggles that many people face with traditional banking methods. No one enjoys the tedious task of visiting a bank, filling out endless forms, and then receiving vague timelines about when their cash will arrive. But wait, there’s more! SCB is also venturing into the world of EMVCo QR payments in collaboration with Ripple. QR payments are already a hit throughout Asia, and this integration will allow SCB to offer micro-payment services, making it easier than ever for customers to remit funds.

A recent survey from PwC highlighted that a whopping 86% of China’s population relies on mobile payment apps, with 67% of that pie residing in Thailand. With plans to extend services to neighboring countries like Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam, SCB is indeed on the brink of a financial renaissance.
