Ryan Zurrer Says Goodbye to W3F
In an exciting yet bittersweet announcement, Ryan Zurrer, the director of the Web3 Foundation (W3F), has decided to part ways with the nonprofit organization dedicated to the decentralized web. Over a series of tweets on August 5, Zurrer elaborated on his decision, expressing enthusiasm for returning to his roots in investments and decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs).
The Timing is Right
Zurrer indicated his departure is partly due to W3F’s current successes. Notably, the foundation recently managed a successful token sale for Polkadot (DOT). Here’s a fun fact: they didn’t just stir the pot; they cooked up some serious blockchain soup!
“With the success of the DOT sale, the @web3summit, and the Foundation in a strong organizational position, I will gradually step away at the end of this year and go back to what my primary passion is — deploying capital and helping early-stage teams build,” Zurrer shared.
Chasing the DAO Dream
Don’t count Zurrer out just yet! His focus now will shift towards developing DAOs — automated organizations managed by smart contracts (think corporate governance meets ‘Transformers’). Zurrer remarked, “The dream of a sustainable decentralized organization that attracts and filters for great talent, supports genuine innovation, and delivers outlier value to its members is really the most compelling project.” Who wouldn’t want to be part of that?
Exciting Things on the Horizon
As his farewell approaches, Zurrer hinted at some surprises he has in store, which will be unveiled at the upcoming Web3 Summit in 2019. We don’t know about you, but we love a good surprise, especially when it could reshape the future of decentralized organizations.
DAOs Making Waves
Speaking of DAOs, they seem to be on everyone’s lips. Recently, the law firm Gravel & Sheathe helped create the first legal DAO in the United States — dOrg LLC, operating on the Ethereum blockchain. If that’s not a bold step forward, we don’t know what is!
Furthermore, June saw the launch of efxDAO by cryptocurrency exchange Ethfinex, designed to test decentralization in their operations, starting off with a modest budget of $5,000. It’s thrilling to witness this evolution in how organizations can operate autonomously without traditional hierarchy.
Conclusion: The Road Ahead
As Zurrer gears up to embark on new adventures in the investment and DAO landscape, there’s no doubt that his vision will continue influencing the cryptocurrency realm. With the ever-looming potential of DAOs to revolutionize how we think about organizations, one can only wonder what exciting developments are yet to come.
