Seizures Target Key Figures
The Seoul Southern District Prosecutor’s Office has swooped in with a hefty confiscation of approximately $160 million from eight individuals tied to the notorious collapse of Terraform Labs. This hefty sum, estimated at around 210 billion won, focuses largely on real estate properties associated with former Terra employees. Talk about selling the family jewels!
Who’s Paying the Price?
Among those in the hot seat, former Terra Vice President Kim Mo and another executive (name still under wraps) find themselves on the government’s naughty list, with seized properties valued at about $60 million and $31 million respectively. Seriously, who knew your biggest investment folly could lead to a wild game of Monopoly?
Investigation Continues
In an official statement, a spokesperson for the prosecution shared: “We are still investigating the property ownership status of the suspects, and we plan to carry out collection preservation for the confirmed property in the future in order to recover the proceeds of crime and recover damages.” Essentially, they’re not done digging through the dirt just yet. Sounds like Treasure Island, but without the treasure.
Aiming to Prevent Asset Disposal
These seizures are more than just a show of hands; they’re a strategic move to ensure former Terra employees can’t play fast and loose with their assets while criminal proceedings loom. Further back in November, they snagged co-founder Daniel Shin’s home in Seoul. Funny how nothing says “I’m innocent” like losing your house!
Where’s the Crypto Cash?
Oddly enough, while real estate takes center stage in these drama-filled proceedings, there’s been no mention of any crypto assets getting nabbed. At the moment, no arrest warrant exists for Shin, leaving many to wonder if this dance will go on without music. Meanwhile, in a bizarre twist of fate, Terra co-founder Do Kwon has recently been spotted taking a vacation from being a fugitive in Montenegro, echoing local authorities’ invitations to extradite him back to South Korea.
