Uniswap’s Ambitious New Wallet Launch
Uniswap Labs is making waves in the decentralized finance (DeFi) world with the announcement of their upcoming self-custodial mobile wallet. Imagine a wallet where swapping tokens across blockchain networks is as effortless as flipping a pancake (just don’t go frying it on the griddle, please).
Features That Make You Go ‘Wow’
What’s in store for users? Well, Uniswap’s new wallet boasts several fantastic features:
- Multi-Network Swaps: Users can swap on layer-1 or layer-2 networks without having to deal with the headaches of switching blockchains.
- Token Search Made Easy: Check price charts and search for any token across multiple networks like Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Optimism.
- Robust Security: In partnership with security experts at Trail of Bits, the wallet emphasizes user safety.
- Smart Storage: Your seed phrases and private keys? Encrypted and stored securely using Apple’s Secure Enclave, ensuring they’re exempt from device backups.
Getting Users Onboard
Currently available through a limited early release on Apple’s TestFlight, this mobile wallet is attracting a few thousand users, while the rest of the world patiently waits on the sidelines. Uniswap Labs did mention that you can opt to manually store your seed phrases, either by writing them on a piece of paper (old school style) or encrypting them in iCloud. The choice is yours!
Stuck in ‘Approval Limbo’
Despite having a green light for an initial build back in October, Uniswap Labs has been in a frustrating game of ‘will they, won’t they’ with Apple’s App Store. Even though others have launched self-custody wallets, Uniswap’s final build was unexpectedly rejected just days before the planned launch. They shared their feelings candidly, stating:
“Apple won’t green-light our launch and we don’t know why. We are stuck in limbo.”
Ah, the suspense! Will Apple come around like a long-lost friend? Or will it ghost them completely? Stay tuned!
What’s Next for Uniswap?
In addition to their wallet woes, Uniswap community members recently took a significant step by voting in favor of deploying Uniswap v3 on the Boba Network’s layer-2 protocol. This will mark the sixth chain for Uniswap v3, supported by notable players like GFX Labs and ConsenSys. It seems like Uniswap is determined to keep pushing boundaries, even if Apple is keeping them on a tight leash.
