A Pioneering Step in Cryptocurrency Education
On November 8th, the business district just outside of Paris witnessed the launch of an innovative space dedicated to crypto research—the Institute of Crypto-Assets. This establishment positions itself as a hub for knowledge, exploration, and discussion on blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies, shedding light on these modern financial marvels.
Who’s Leading the Charge?
The scientific board of the institute comprises 11 distinguished experts from esteemed French academic institutions, including the National Center for Scientific Research and the École Polytechnique. These minds will guide the research efforts, while a committee of six industry practitioners helps keep the institute grounded in the real world. Notable figures, such as Ledger co-founder Nicolas Bacca and Paymium founder Pierre Noizat, lend their expertise to this venture.
Making Education a Priority
Cyril Grunspan, the institute’s director, emphasizes an educational mission over a lobbying agenda, stating,
“Our goal is not to lobby but to create a forum for discussion on cryptoassets.”
This commitment indicates a focus not solely on theory but on fostering community engagement through dialogue.
A Glimpse into the Future: Lectures and Events
The opening event featured intriguing lectures that underscored its educational mandate. Historian Jacques Favier took attendees on a journey through the history of currency leading up to Bitcoin (BTC), while cryptographer David Pointcheval delved into the world of zero-knowledge proofs and the concept of anonymity.
The institute promises to maintain a vibrant public schedule by hosting regular events like these, aiming to demystify the complexities surrounding crypto-assets.
France’s Forward-Thinking Approach to Digital Innovations
This establishment isn’t France’s only stride toward digital leadership. In September, local telecommunications giant Iliad announced a hefty investment of 100 million euros (about $106 million) to create an excellence lab for AI research in Paris. Furthermore, they have acquired what they call “the most powerful cloud-native AI supercomputer deployed to date in Europe,” positioning themselves at the forefront of digital innovation.
Crypto Investment Landscape
Amidst the tumultuous crypto market of early 2023, France’s crypto firms captured a whopping 27% of new investment deals in the fintech sector. This growing interest showcases the potential for growth and development within the crypto landscape, further underscoring the necessity for dedicated research and education hubs like the Institute of Crypto-Assets.
