Urgent Alert: Protect Your Crypto Assets from Multichain Vulnerability

Estimated read time 3 min read

Understanding the Multichain Vulnerability

The Cross-chain router protocol Multichain, previously known as Anyswap, is raising the alarm bells for users who have approved certain tokens. Due to a recently discovered critical vulnerability, hackers are having a field day, exploiting user approvals for malicious gain. The tokens at risk include Wrapped ETH (WETH), Peri Finance (PERI), Official Mars Token (OMT), Wrapped BNB (WBNB), Polygon (MATIC), and Avalanche (AVAX).

Steps to Revoke Approvals

To ensure the safety of your digital assets, the Multichain team has issued a call to action: revoke all approvals for the tokens listed above. They even provided a handy step-by-step tutorial on how to do this, making it easy for even the most technologically challenged among us. Spoiler alert: don’t transfer any affected tokens before revoking those approvals or you’re basically throwing your money out the window!

What You Need to Do Now

  • Identify which tokens you need to revoke.
  • Follow the provided tutorial from Multichain.
  • Do NOT transfer affected tokens prior to revocation.

Just like getting stuck in a revolving door, it’s best to get out before it spins you right back into danger!

The Source of the Issue

The vulnerability was first spotted by a security firm called Dedaub. They did their hero duty by reporting the issue to the Multichain team, who quickly patched things up. However, despite the patch, hackers are still taking advantage, and as of the latest report, a whopping 445 WETH (valued at approximately $1.4 million) is already in jeopardy. This isn’t just a minor glitch—it’s a major risk!

Community Response and Preventing Future Hacks

In light of the rampant hacks and scams—which cost users more than $10.2 billion in 2021—the crypto community is gearing up to counter these threats. According to Mitchell Amador, CEO of Immunefi, the on-chain economy is evolving, and best practices for securing digital assets are rapidly circulating. The community recognizes that, like any good action movie, it’s all about adapting and fighting back!

Keeping an Eye on Security

Security firms are stepping up their game, with organizations like Certik already identifying potential threats, such as the recent Arbix Finance rug pull. As users, it’s vital to remain vigilant and proactive when securing our investments. You wouldn’t walk through a dark alley at night without searching for ninja turtles, would you? So don’t let your guards down—stay informed and secure!
