Walking the Talk: Why the Crypto Community Needs to Embrace Its Own Innovations

The Crypto Conundrum: Are We Really Using Our Own Products?

Last week’s ETHDenver conference illuminated a baffling tendency in the crypto landscape. Despite touting our blockchain technology’s benefits, it appears the Web3 community is still dabbling in traditional tech instead of fully embracing the very innovations we’ve created.

A Tale of Two Realities

In established industries, it’s not uncommon for employees to chow down on their own dog food. Take Microsoft, for example; they require their staff to use Outlook and Word. Meanwhile, in the world of crypto, our principle of eating our own dog food seems more like a half-hearted nibble.

Why don’t we see Web3 enthusiasts clamoring to utilize our tech? It’s a puzzling scenario. We brag about fostering decentralization, yet the bulk of cryptocurrency transactions still occur on centralized exchanges. The irony is thicker than a New York bagel.

The Eventbrite Conundrum

ETHDenver showcased this irony beautifully. With a plethora of side events leveraging legacy ticketing platforms like Eventbrite, it begs the question: why are we opting for the old guard over our cutting-edge solutions?

Crypto events scream out for the adoption of nonfungible token (NFT) ticketing. Instead of scribbling on a piece of cardboard, imagine attendees scanning a QR code to mint NFTs that document their networking exploits. This could revolutionize our interactions while giving a new spin on social exchanges!

The Business Card Revolution

Refusing to ditch paper business cards is another pet peeve. Why not swap out those flimsy rectangles for QR codes linked to NFT profiles? The future is staring us right in the face, yet we continue to embrace the past when it comes to networking. Think about it:

  • Scanning a QR code can instantly mint an NFT.
  • Information-sharing becomes seamless with NFT “link trees.”
  • Ongoing interactions can be recorded as digital collectibles leading to future promotions.

Why Must We Be the Pioneers?

There’s a common saying: “If not us, then who?” It’s high time we — the builders of this revolutionary tech — take a stand by consistently using our own products. We must explore friction points and iterate upon them. After all, who else should demonstrate how our innovations work if we aren’t even willing to try them?

Learning Curves and Old Habits

Undoubtedly, the transition to embracing our own technology is fraught with challenges, but it’s critical. Sticking to conventional practices in a world where you can mint NFTs and trade assets seamlessly seems counterproductive. Our industry is on the brink of something monumental; let’s not let fear of the unknown hold us back.

The Call to Action

The message is clear: As a community, we need to collectively decide to walk the walk. Let’s showcase the innovations we’ve worked so hard to develop. By adopting new technologies, we can lead the charge toward creating a better, more interconnected future that aligns with our core values. It’s time to turn the tables and show the world the true power of Web3!
