Results revealed that a whopping 74% of respondents crave NFTs for the status their ownership brings. Unique Avatars and Digital Solidarity

Among the highlighted motivations, the desire to flaunt unique digital assets as avatars came out on top. It’s not just about owning something valuable; it’s about making a statement. One participant, “Flexfactor,” nailed it by saying, “I like the fact that it’s less likely to run into people with the same items as me. I like being unique and standing out.” It’s like showing up to a party in a rare vintage outfit while everyone else is in department store specials.

The Resale Game: Not Everyone’s on Board

While a majority are in it for the aesthetic and status, only 13% of survey participants claimed they were buying NFTs with the intention to resell later. It’s as if the real estate market shifted focus from flipping houses to flipping digital art. This might explain the hype around some artists who have become as coveted as a limited edition watch—pricey, exclusive, and thoroughly debated by financial analysts.

The Metaverse: A New Social Playground

John Burris, president of Metajuice, emphasizes that owning NFTs enhances our virtual identities, constructing a “communal notion of status-led trends” in the metaverse. Who wouldn’t want to own digital goods that can elevate their perceived social standing?
