Lawsuit Against Tron CEO Justin Sun: Former Employees Allege Discrimination and Harassment

Two ex-employees of BitTorrent, which was gobbled up by Tron in 2018, are taking legal action against Justin Sun, the founder and CEO of Tron, along with Rainberry Inc. (the company backing the Tron Foundation). Plaintiffs Lukasz Juraszek and Richard Hall are claiming a cool $15 million in damages, alleging a cornucopia of issues including wrongful termination and harassment in a workplace that sounds more hostile than a reality TV show.

Allegations of a Toxic Culture

The unsealed court documents filed in California on October 28 paint a grim picture of the workplace at BitTorrent. Juraszek, just 28, and Hall, a seasoned 50, allege they were caught in a “sustained campaign” of hostility, largely because they didn’t fit the mold of what Sun apparently wanted—employees who keep their mouths shut and work till they drop.

Who Needs Whistleblowers Anyway?

The lawsuit highlights that both plaintiffs faced discrimination based on not just their Caucasian background, but also for daring to speak up about practices they considered upfront illegal. Hall’s stint as product director lasted a mere seven months, and he claims to have been kicked to the curb for resisting participation in what he saw as “blatantly illegal” activities. Sounds like a plot twist nobody signed up for!

Rainberry’s Discriminatory Practices

Juraszek, the software engineer, claims his termination was orchestrated by Cong Li, Sun’s head of engineering. He alleges that Li encouraged his supervisor to set him “impossibly high engineering standards.” Talk about setting someone up for failure! Juraszek argues that this punitive treatment was merely retaliation for his concerns about the firm’s supposedly “sordid and unethical” business practices.

Justin Sun Strikes Back

In a dramatic turn of events, Justin Sun denies any wrongdoing, claiming that every allegation is as false as a three-dollar bill. He insists that his management style was not discriminatory, harassing, or retaliatory—just good old business technique, allegedly performed in good faith. Sounds like a classic case of he said, she said.

Adding a layer of intrigue, a recent report hinted that 17 out of the 25 most-used decentralized applications on the Tron network might lean heavily toward gambling. Just another reason for the scrutiny around Sun and his multi-million-dollar operations.
